Miss Newfoundland and Labrador Pageant

Since January Sheena has been working on a project that she called ‘Chicka Belle’. Using the Dove Self-Esteem Fund workshop materials, she developed a program of her own that includes videos, articles, quizzes and discussion focusing on self-esteem.

The program is designed for girls aged 10-14. It encourages girls to evaluate their self-esteem by looking at where it comes from and what affect the media, their peers, and their family has on it. The goal of these workshops is for each girl to adopt a positive attitude and find the true beauty within herself. This empowerment will enable the girls to stand up to the pressures they face each day and become much more confident in her own body.

The Chicka Belle workshop can be done in an hour or can take as long as all night! After the girls have completed the workshop and activities, they are given a Chicka Belle certificate, journal, Dove Self-Esteem Fund handouts, and finally they say the Chicka Belle pledge...
